SharePoint Online – Quick Start Guide
Do more wherever you are with secure access, sharing, and file storage.
Sign in to your Office 365 subscription and select SharePoint from the app launcher.
Check out featured content
News from sites highlights updates from sites you follow or visit often.
Frequent sites shows sites you like to go to and recent activity in them.
Suggested sites appear based on searches you've done and recommendations from Microsoft Graph.
Microsoft Graph must be enabled by your admin to see featured links and suggested sites on your SharePoint homepage.
Find your sites
Following displays sites you follow (like your team’s site).
Recent shows sites you’ve recently visited.
Featured links display sites your company wants to showcase.
Search
Find Sites, People, or Files.
Work with files
Options include:
Open—Edit a file online or in a desktop app.
Sharing status—See which files are shared and with whom.
Version history—View or restore previous versions.
Share – Files are private until shared.
Copy link – Create a shareable link for IM, email, or sites.
Move to / Copy to – Move or copy files to other destinations.
Details pane – View info, manage access, and edit properties.
Recent activity—See sharing, viewing, and editing activity.
Pin to top—Keep important folders or files visible.
Flow—Automate tasks between SharePoint, Office 365, and third-party services.
Download—Save files locally for offline use.
Create or upload files and folders
Copy link
Share a file by copying its link and pasting it in an email, IM, a webpage, or OneNote.
Sync SharePoint files and folders with OneDrive
Sync files to your computer for offline access.
From a document library, select Sync, and sign in with your work or school account.
Share files
Create a site
Select "Create Site" on the homepage.
Choose Team site or Communication site.
Enter the title, description, owners, and members.
You can also make the group private and rename its email.
(Creating a Team site also creates an Office 365 Group.)
Add content
Add a page: + New → Page → Name → Publish.
Add a document library or list: + New → Library or List.
Add web parts: Use the + sign to add text, images, files, video, or dynamic content.
Mobile SharePoint access
Available in app stores for iOS, Android, and Windows.
Access sites, people, files, and news from your phone or tablet.
Use search to find content, view contact cards, and stay up-to-date.
Android and iOS have similar experiences (except for file activity).
Files On-Demand
Access all SharePoint files via OneDrive without downloading them.
In the taskbar, go to the OneDrive icon, then More > Settings > Save space and download files as you use them.
The file states:
Online files take no local space.
You can make files available offline.
Files can be reverted to online-only later.
